So I decide to try writing again. I still don't know if I could do this frequently but let's try. And I'm sorry if I write both in English and Indonesian. I'm not confident enough with my English, but someone leave a comment at my twitter saying my English good enough. That was really really touch me. That's another story for another post.
This is my first book in 2019. Romance isn't really my cup of tea but I find it at library and I want to read something easy, so I give it a try. This book contain few stories, mostly set at Paris. The synopsis at the back of book as below:
Nell is twenty-six and has never been to Paris. She's never even been on a romantic weekend away--to anywhere--before. Traveling abroad isn't really her thing. But when Nell's boyfriend fails to show up for their mini-vacation, she has the opportunity to prove everyone--including herself--wrong. Alone in Paris, Nell finds a version of herself she never knew existed: independent and intrepid. Could this turn out to be the most adventurous weekend of her life? Funny, charming, and irresistible, Paris for One is quintessential Jojo Moyes--as are the other stories that round out the collection.
Let's review each story
Paris for One / ✯✯✰✰✰
I don't really like the first story. Yes, it's good enough. The theme too, it had some messages that you need, sometime, to be brave. To take change. To be impulsive. To fight what your heart desire. I like that kind of story. But, it just too cliche for me. A girl abandon by her boyfriend then meet someone charming enough then fall in love. For you who love a romantic one, maybe it will be sweet and romantic enough.
Between The Tweet / ✯✯✯✰✰
It's interesting story. Had some mystery and the ending definitely a shocking one. Interesting.
Love in The Afternoon / ✯✯✯✯✰
It's a story that may happen in your real life. I find at this chapter that this book give us simple story yet had hidden important message. I still enjoy this one but I think it's not wrote good enough. Oh and the message that I get, is that we need to appreciate people around us more. Especially those who we spend our live with. You never know, the effort they did, just trying to make us happy.
A Bird in The Hand / ✯✰✰✰✰
This my least favorite. I really confuse with this one. I'm not sure with its meaning. I really need to force myself to finish.
Crocodile Shoes / ✯✰✰✰✰
This one too, get me confused. It left me kind like "So? What's the point? Just like that?"
Holdup / ✯✯✯✯✰
This is the most funny story. It's quite interesting.
Honeymoon in Paris / ✯✯✯✯✯
This one is the best! It's my favorite! I get confuse first because it had 2 story with different main characters and different setting time too (one 2002, one at 1912). But the story really interesting and left such a very deep impression for me.
Last Year's Coat / ✮✮✮✰✰
This one just like Love in The Afternoon. It simple and realistic yet had important message. You shouldn't look at other, and just because you had less, you can't be happy. Treasure what you had and you don't even know, maybe those person you envy, had bigger problem than you.
Thirteen Days with John C / ✯✰✰✰✰
Er... I just don't get this story.
Margot / ✯✯✯✰✰
Simple and a bit confusing but somehow I like it. So what if your love betray you? So what if your family had more than you? Buy something nice for your self and be happy.
The Christmas List / ✯✯✯✯✰
This is my sweet kind of story. I know it's not romantic but still so sweet for me. Like Margot, this one about stranger encourage you to take a brave step to find happiness. You can't find many people like that now. Everybody only see the worst in us. Criticism and judgement without any helping solution. But you deserve to be happy. Never give up your happiness!
So, overall, I think this book is not for me. I still enjoy it though. It that it's simple and some realistic enough and it definitely an easy reading. This is my first time reading Jojo Moyes's books, and it's good enough and maybe I will try another one later.
I know this review isn't interesting. I wrote in my limited English and the book itself is not my usual reading so well... I still happy to try to write here again. 😁
See you ❤
